What's it like to be a Human Resources Adviser?
A Human Resources Adviser (Kaitohutohu Pūmanawa Tangata) primarily focuses on supporting an organisation's workforce. This could include recruiting and hiring new staff, organising training programs, managing pay and benefits and advising on employment law. Human Resources Advisers also often mediate between management and employees to resolve disputes and improve workplace relations. They work in a variety of industries, including the public and private sector, not-for-profit organisations, and human resources or recruitment agencies.
Tasks and duties
- Assisting in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
- Advising managers on staff development, employment law, and dealing with employee relations issues.
- Facilitating the recruitment process, which includes posting job adverts, coordinating interviews and handling the employment contract process.
- Managing employee benefit programs and advising employees about their benefits.
- Carrying out regular salary reviews and ensuring that pay practices comply with legal requirements.
- Identifying training needs within the organisation and designing training programs.
- Maintaining employee records and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
- Handling grievances and implementing disciplinary procedures.
