Territory Manager
What's it like to be a Territory Manager?
A Territory Manager is the face of a business and ambassador for its brands within a defined geographical area. The Territory Manager’s role is to build and maintain relationships with new and existing customers and develop strategies to drive business. Territory Managers work with their account base to display merchandise more effectively, promote new lines, boost sales promotions, and maximise sell-through. Typically, the Territory Manager will manage a growth plan and have sales and distribution targets.
Tasks and duties
- Manage a customer account base and build strong relationships with existing and new clients.
- Deliver to financials and market share goals.
- Ensure execution of the commercial, promotional and strategic plans.
- Preserve and grow knowledge on existing products, competitors' products and general market information.
- Source and develop new business opportunities from initial contact to closure.
- Gain and maintain rapport with both internal and external stakeholders.
How to become a Territory Manager
You don’t need a qualification to become a Territory Manager, although a certificate, diploma or degree in business, or sales and marketing may be helpful. On-the-job training is provided.

Secure an entry level sales, merchandising, or retail role to build experience.

Consider studying part time towards a New Zealand Certificate in Sales (Level 3) or New Zealand Diploma in Business (Marketing and Sales) (Level 5).
