Solutions Architect
What's it like to be a Solutions Architect?
Solutions Architects evaluate the business needs of an organisation and determine how technology can be used to deliver or support solutions. They create detailed plans and budgets for IT architecture (hardware and software) and then manage the implementation of those plans. Solutions Architects work closely with both the business and IT functions of an organisation to align IT strategy with organisational goals.
Tasks and duties
- Identifying technology solutions to business problems.
- Developing plans and strategies which can include proof-of-concepts and prototypes.
- Identifying project issues and risks.
- Producing component specifications and translating them into designs for implementation.
- Leading technical analysis, implementation and deployment.
- Supporting Project Managers throughout every stage of development.
How to become a Solutions Architect
To become a Solutions Architect you will need a tertiary qualification and industry experience.
Complete a bachelor degree in an IT-related field, or a double degree across IT and business. This usually takes three to four years of study.
Secure an internship while studying to gain industry experience.
Consider postgraduate study in an IT-related field or a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Advance your skills by completing additional accreditations such as Cisco, Google or Microsoft certifications.
